What is changing?

A: GTC will transition from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 between the Spring and Summer 2026 semesters. The anticipated cutover date is May 8, 2026. This will move student emails (my.gvltec.edu) from Google to Microsoft 365 (Outlook). Employees will no longer have my.gvltec.edu email accounts..

Why is GTC making this change?

A: This transition supports the college’s ongoing effort to create a secure, unified and efficient technology environment for students and employees. A single, collegewide platform will:
• Streamline communication
• Strengthen security
• Improve system integration
• Align the tools we use every day.

When does Google workspace end?

A: Access to Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, YouTube and other Google services through my.gvltec.edu accounts) will end after the Spring Semester. After cutover, you will no longer be able to log in to Google services using your GTC account. .

What is the transition timeline?

A: Here is a tentative timeline for the transition:
• Spring 2026 Semester
o No change – normal operations
o Targeted testing and piloting
o Validating systems and processes

o Training on Teams available
o Communications and reminders to prepare for transition
• Between Spring and Summer Semesters
o Student platform changes from Google to Microsoft 365
o Zoom transitions to Microsoft Teams
• Summer 2026
o New platforms in place
o Ongoing support and troubleshooting .

What happens to Email?

A:
Employees:
• You will no longer use a my.gvltec.edu account.
• Emails sent to your my.gvltec.edu address will automatically forward to your gvltec.edu address.
• Your primary login and email platform will be Microsoft 365.
• Emails in your my.gvltec.edu account will not be saved – you must save or forward them.
Students:
• Your email address (my.gvltec.edu) will remain the same.
• Your email will now operate in Microsoft 365/Outlook instead of Gmail.
• Emails in your my.gvltec.edu Gmail account will not be saved – you must save or forward them.
You must save or forward any important emails stored in Gmail before the cutover date. Google Takeout is a tool available to export and download a copy of your data from Google products, such as Gmail, Google Drive and YouTube..

What happens to my Google Drive files?

A: All Google Drive files associated with your GTC my.gvltec.edu account will become inaccessible. You must download or transfer any files you wish to keep before May 5, 2026. How do I download my Google files?

A:
1. Go to: takeout-google.com
2. Select the items you want to download.
3. Choose format and export.
4. Download the file package.
5. Save your files to:
• OneDrive (recommended) – video files to YuJa
• An external drive
• Personal storage

All GTC-related work files should be uploaded to OneDrive in Microsoft 365 after download.

Shared Google Drive folders will not automatically transfer. You and your collaborators should:
• Download shared content
• Re-upload to OneDrive
• Re-share with collaborators in Microsoft 365.

Will my email address change?

A: No. Your Greenville Tech email address will remain the same, but email will be accessed through Microsoft Outlook after the transition.

What happens to online meetings and classes on Zoom?

 A: Microsoft Teams will replace Zoom as GTC’s standard platform for online meetings and classes. Once the configuration is complete, Teams will support external meeting attendees and file sharing to recipients outside of GTC. It will also support other capabilities, such as meeting recording and transcription..
